Compared to ordinary lead-acid batteries and even pure lead-acid batteries, horizontal batteries use updated materials and achieve disruptive breakthroughs in battery structure.

 

On the one hand, horizontal batteries use new materials. Taking the horizontal battery of Yidewei Company as an example, it adopts a composite pure lead grid. The inner core of the grid is aerospace grade high-strength glass fiber, cast from multipole ears, with a tensile strength of up to 100546 Kgf/cm2. The outer layer of the fiber is covered with a pure lead layer (only about 10% tin is added to the lead to enhance the strength of the material), which is formed by cold extrusion at 2000MPa. Afterwards, these composite lead wires are woven into a grid structure and coated with active substances to form the battery plates. This weaving structure allows for a large contact area of the active material and a 100% uniform current density.

 

According to internal estimates by Yidewei Energy Technology, the corrosion resistance of this new composite pure lead grid is 9 times that of ordinary gravity cast grids.

 

Not only that, unlike ordinary batteries that are connected through pole lugs, busbars, and cross bridges, horizontal batteries are based on bipolar plate technology and use a special plate stacking method to achieve three-dimensional series parallel connection within the battery, greatly shortening the conductive path of the current and greatly reducing the internal resistance of the battery. Compared to ordinary batteries, the internal resistance of horizontal batteries has been reduced by about 70%. At the same time, the positive and negative active substances of the battery are simultaneously coated on a single electrode plate, which is more conducive to rapid charging and discharging of large currents.

In addition, unlike the vertical plate placement of traditional lead-acid batteries and pure lead-acid batteries, horizontal batteries adopt a horizontal plate placement, which can effectively avoid the shedding of active substances and electrolyte stratification, promote oxygen recombination, and effectively improve the charging efficiency and cycle life of the battery. Based on these groundbreaking designs, horizontal batteries have many superior performance. According to Zhang Zhengdong, fast charging is one of its major advantages. Compared to ordinary lead-acid batteries, horizontal batteries have extremely fast charging capacity, and can be fully charged in just 75 minutes at a 3C current (i.e. discharge current is three times the nominal capacity of the battery). The battery capacity can reach over 80% after 20 minutes of charging.

 

The performance of horizontal batteries in low-temperature environments is also very good. The battery can start with just one click in an environment of -50 ℃, and its discharge capacity can reach over 40% at -40 ℃. The ultra-low temperature discharge capacity is twice that of ordinary products. On the one hand, this is due to the low resistance of the battery, and on the other hand, the horizontal battery adopts a lean solution design, which means that the electrolyte is adsorbed in a solid state on the separator and does not have fluidity. Compared to ordinary batteries, the liquid electrolyte is easier to freeze.

 

Specifically, horizontal batteries also have the advantages of resistance to damage and vibration. Due to the solid state of the electrolyte in a horizontal battery, even if the outer shell is damaged, there is no liquid leakage. Among the internal monomers, hundreds of lead wires form a three-dimensional series parallel network, and any damage cannot completely damage the connection.
