Solid state battery is a new battery technology, which replaces liquid or gelled electrolyte with solid electrolyte. It is considered a candidate technology for the next generation of high-performance lithium batteries. Compared with traditional liquid batteries, solid-state batteries have the following characteristics and advantages:
1. High energy density:
Its energy density is expected to exceed 500Wh/kg, which is about twice that of liquid lithium-ion batteries. It can store more energy while being lighter and thinner, making it more suitable for the use of portable devices such as electronic devices.
Solid electrolyte can prevent internal short circuits and leaks in batteries, greatly improving their safety performance and reducing the occurrence of unexpected situations such as battery explosions.
2. Longer lifespan:
Due to the higher stability of solid-state electrolytes, the cycling performance of lithium batteries is improved, and solid-state batteries have a longer lifespan, which can reduce the frequency of battery replacement and reduce usage costs.
In the long run, the main application scenarios of solid-state batteries overlap with liquid batteries, namely consumer electronics, new energy vehicles, and energy storage. It is expected to prioritize commercialization in the high-end application market and gradually expand into the fields of power and consumer batteries. Based on the excellent performance of solid-state batteries, there is enormous potential for future industry development. It is predicted that by 2030, the shipment volume of solid-state batteries in China will reach 251GWh, and the global shipment volume of solid-state batteries will reach 500GWh.
