The United States is the world's largest and fastest growing battery energy storage market. By the end of 2021, the scale of battery energy storage before the balance sheet will be 5.7GW/13.6GWh, accounting for 84% of the total energy storage. California is one of the fastest growing and largest markets for battery energy storage in front of watches in the United States. In 2021, California's electricity market will add nearly 2.4GW of battery energy storage in front of the meter, more than 12 times the increase in the previous year. As of September 2022, California has more than 3GW of energy storage connected to the grid. At present, almost all battery energy in the power grid is stored for 3-4 hours, which basically matches the time from sunset to peak load at night in California.
In California, natural gas power generation and non fossil energy power generation account for nearly half of the installed capacity of local power supply. California has a long sunshine period, with an average sunshine peak time of more than 5 hours. The installed capacity of power supply is 80GW, of which the installed capacity of solar power generation is close to 14GW, accounting for about 17%. In addition, California is a power receiving state, and the purchased electricity accounts for about 32% of the annual electricity consumption. In one year, the proportion of wind power generation output in total power output can reach 66% at most, so California is a typical high proportion of new energy power generation system. The daily load reaches its peak at night, which leads to the need for a large number of gas and electricity to be put into the system quickly for balance adjustment from sunset. Battery energy storage is very suitable for the California market. It can move a large amount of photovoltaic power generation to the peak power consumption.
